ABOUT LEND A PAW DOGS
New Leash On Life’s Lend A Paw Program offers Social/Therapy trained dogs. The right dog can be a valuable companion in the life of any family regardless of the challenge they may face. Therefore, we focus our level of training to create well-mannered, calm, social pets. Our dogs do not have health, disposition, or trainability issues. Rather, we choose not to train our dogs as assistance animals due to its lengthy process. Remember, NLOL rescues dogs from the shelters. Our goal is to provide well trained social/therapy dogs, and at the same time rescue and place as many dogs as possible.

These dogs have a six week minimum training and evaluation period. We use a number of trainers for each dog, ensuring the dog is comfortable with following directions from any handler. The dogs are taken to various locations throughout the area and “proofed” against every day distractions and obstacles. All dogs have passed the Canine Good Citizens test (CGC). These dogs are available for adoption by those persons willing to continue their use in therapy work, or by families afflicted with a disability who feel the unconditional love and companionship our dogs have to offer will be beneficial.

The dogs can also be trained a specific behavior requested by the family that would fit their family's specific needs. Our dogs do not necessarily have public access rights.

What is the difference between service animals, therapy animals, companion animals and social/therapy dogs?
