Vera is a super-sweet and wiggly young gal who was found tied to our vet's front door. Who could send her away? Those big brown eyes called out for help, and NLOL was eager to respond.

Vera’s endless curiosity and loyalty to her humans would make her a great dog for any household. She has learned basic commands and is working on some leash reactivity issues with our volunteer obedience trainer. Vera is VERY friendly with other dogs in an off-leash setting (i.e. dog beach or dog daycare, which she currently attends twice weekly.) She now lives in a foster home with a cat, and loves to look to him for a playmate, even if the kitty doesn’t want to always play with Vera! If cats are a factor in her potential adoptive home, she would do best with an assertive clawed cat who's not afraid of her playful cat interaction. Vera will need a firm handler who isn't going to give in to her many demands!

This poor little dog had suffered a broken front leg that had healed incorrectly prior to her transfer to NLOL, but in conjunction with our vet and orthopedic surgeon, it was determined that she would not require surgery to correct the defect. Vera sometimes walks with a limp, but with the addition of hydrotherapy to her exercise routine, she now puts more weight on her malformed leg. Like any puppy, she still loves to wrestle and play with other dogs. However, she is starting to show signs of arthritis in her shoulder as a result of her leg, and she will have a limited activity list as she ages - her vet now recommends that she only have low-impact exercise like swimming, long walks, or playing fetch with "grounder" balls. Running on concrete or jumping/fetching high-thrown balls would not be the best idea for this little lady! The ideal adopter for Vera would be able and willing to take her to hydrotherapy for her leg at least once a month, but during the summer months a regular swim schedule in the lake should be sufficient.

At home, Vera is always interested in giving her foster mom lots of love. Her combination of independence, energy and affection has made her a welcomed member of the family. In turn, she has received lots of attention and obedience training that will only benefit her in her forever home. Vera is also housetrained.
